Google Glass Draws U.S. Congressional Concern

( The Hosting News ) – Just how much privacy will the innovative device known as Google Glass afford users? That particular question was recently on the minds of U.S. lawmakers as eight congressmen addressed concerns via a letter. The move comes from the Congressional privacy caucus. “We are curious whether this new technology could infringe on the privacy of the average American,” stated the letter addressed to Google CEO Larry Page, according to the BBC. Among the concerns are that Google Glass could “unintentionally collect data” and device features such as facial recognition technology, the company’s privacy policy, application approvals, data storage and more. Google was previously criticized in the past for its use of unencrypted wireless networks for data collection – something that made news headlines in 2010. Project director Steve Lee previously signaled that Google seriously took privacy into account when developing the project. Google Glass isn’t available for general use, instead being available to select users whom Google is hoping will help develop apps for the emerging platform.
